Top 10 Must-Watch Bollywood Movies of the decade

Bollywood is famous for making movies that are cliched love stories, exaggerating the number of songs, nepotism, remakes, and repeated storyline. But there are exceptions in everything. So, there are filmmakers who thought differently and tried making movies that were way ahead of their time. These movies are not only loved by audiences but also approved by critics and have won many awards including national awards. The unique storyline, interesting plot twists, life message, thriller that increases adrenaline in the body, are some of the words that can be used to appreciate these movies. Many movies are groundbreaking, path-breaking that was way ahead of their time but we are talking about 10 movies that are considered as must-watch Bollywood movies of this decade. All these movies are must-watch and can enter into your list of favorite movies (maybe already are) that can be watched anytime.
1. Bhaag Milkha bhaag: Released in 2013 and produced by Rajeev Tandon, Sudhanshu Vats, Raghav Bahl, Maitrayee Dasgupta, and P.S. Bharathi, the movie is a biography of Milkha Singh, an athlete who won medals for India. The movie captures his life very beautiful and its direction is intriguing. The music of this movie is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Farhan Akhtar’s performance (Lead actor of this film) is considered to be his career’s best performance and he also won the Filmfare award for best actor that year. Must watch movie of the decade.
2. Andhadhun: Released in 2018, the critically approved, award-winning movie is a thriller that everyone should watch. Music is composed by Amit Trivedi and directed by Sriram Raghavan. It keeps viewers on edge due to its plot twists. Ayushmann Khurana, the lead actor of this movie won the Filmfare award for best actor that year. Also, not only this movie won many Filmfare awards but also got a National film award for the best feature film in Hindi.
3. Chhichhore: Released in 2019 and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the storyline revolves around the hostel Life of engineering students. Music is composed by Pritam and directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The movie is fun to watch due to its catchy jokes. The message that this movie wants to convey reaches audiences very well. This movie won the National film award for the best feature film in Hindi.
4. Dangal: Released in 2016 and produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Siddharth Roy Kapur, this movie is critically approved, award-winning, record-breaker, loved by audiences, and kids. Music is composed by Pritam and directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The movie is highly motivating, giving society a message that girls are no less. The movie is based on real-life struggles faced by Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat and their journey to victory. A must-watch movie.
5. Neerja: Released in 2016 and produced by Atul Kasbekar and Shanti Sivaram Maini, this movie is critically approved, national award-winning, and appreciated by audiences. The music is composed by Vishal Khurana and directed by Ram Madhvani. The story revolves around the flight attendant Neerja Bhanot’s biography who sacrificed her life to save passengers. The direction of this biographical thriller is outstanding.
6. Zindagi naa milegi dobara: Released in 2011 and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, this movie is critically approved, award-winning, and appreciated by audiences due to its pathbreaking storyline. Music composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and directed by Zoya Akhtar. The film beautifully captures the various phases of friendship and life beautifully and realistically. A must-watch.
7. Queen: Released in 2013 and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Anurag Kashyap, and Vikramaditya Motwane, this movie is critically approved, national award-winning, and highly appreciated by audiences due to its narrative that a woman can live happily without a man in her life. Music is composed by Amit Trivedi and directed by Vikas Bahl. The story is fresh and gives comfort to viewers.
8. Mary Kom: Released in 2014 and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this movie is the biography of Mary Kom the boxer. Directed by Omung Kumar, this movie captures her life struggles beautifully. This movie is inspiring and gives the message to women that they can do everything if they have passion.
9. Kahaani: Released in 2012 and produced by Sujoy Ghosh and Kushal Kantilal Gada, this movie is critically approved, national award-winning, and highly appreciated by audiences due to its thrilling plot twists and mysterious background. Music is composed by Vishal-Shekhar and directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The movie keeps on edge wondering what will happen next. It’s a must-watch movie of this decade.
10. Fan: Released in 2016 and produced by Aditya Chopra, the movie’s VFX, thrilling plotline, and unique story is a must-watch. Music composed by Vishal-Shekhar and directed by Maneesh Sharma. The story is fresh, different from regular Bollywood masala, and the VFX team of this movie has done an excellent job which is groundbreaking in Indian cinema.
These were in my opinion top 10 must-watch Bollywood movies of the decade. Now, I have missed many. So, will make part 2 of this article.
